Did you know?
Infant Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the same concentration (160mg/5mL) as children’s Tylenol? On December 22, 2011 the FDA announced a recommendation to change the concentration of infant Tylenol to match that of the children’s Tylenol. The recommendation came about to reduce the chance of giving kids an incorrect dosage and to reduce medication errors in pharmacies & doctor offices.
So, if your pediatrician advises you to give a certain dosage of infant Tylenol, you can certainly give the same dosage with children’s Tylenol. Especially since there has been a recent shortage of both infant and children’s Tylenol, with children's Tylenol being easier to find.
If you cannot find either infant’s or children’s Tylenol, the adult liquid Tylenol (500mg/15mL) can also be used, you just need to convert the dosage:
Dosage for infant/children's strength (160mg/5mL) | Dosage in adult strength (500mg/15mL) |
1.25mL | 1.2mL |
2.5mL | 2.4mL |
5mL | 4.8mL |
